Envitec invests in seven biogas plants in Italy in 2012

(SeeNews) - Mar 7, 2013 - German biogas plant maker Envitec Biogas (ETR:ETG) said Wednesday it developed with chiefly own capital and put into operation seven biogas plants in northern Italy in 2012.

The facilities owned by the Envitec have a capacity of some 1 MW each. They are located in Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna and Veneto,

The company's branching into own-plant operation since 2007 fits well its business of biogas facility construction, Envitec added. The number of own facilities doubled last year to a total capacity of 52 MW. Operating its own plants will enable Envitec to develop technological innovations, CEO Olaf von Lehmden said.

Envitec's focus is on Germany and Italy, with the northern part of Italy representing a regional priority as the climate facilitates high crop yields. The German company brought a total of 23 biogas plants online in Italy last year.

"Given the dearth of traditional energy sources, biomass is increasingly being used in Italy to produce energy," Lehmden added.
