March 9 (Renewables Now) - Marine energy investor Envirotek Pte Ltd has, alongside local partners, successfully deployed a 62-kW Schottel Instream tidal power turbine off the Sentosa Boardwalk in Singapore.

The purpose of the project is to showcase the viability of tidal energy in the region, Envirotek said in a press statement on Thursday.

The turbine is attached to a catamaran platform built by shipping firm Lita Ocean. The platform’s lifting frame allows the turbine to be easily raised from and into the water, the company explained.

OceanPixel Pte Ltd, a spin-off company from the Energy Research Institute at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU Singapore), was selected to manage the project. Aquatera and Orcades Marine also took part in the deployment process, supervising the operation.

The turbine is expected to be commissioned later this month.
