Sep 17, 2012 - US solar microinverter maker Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ:ENPH) and US renewable fuels company Kior Inc (NASDAQ:KIOR) are to be added to the Nasdaq Clean Edge Green Energy Index (NASDAQ:CELS).
The move follows the index's semi-annual evaluation, the results of which were unveiled today by US exchange operator Nasdaq OMX Group Inc (NASDAQ:NDAQ) and advisory firm Clean Edge Inc.
Another 14 companies will be removed from the index. These are A123 Systems Inc (NASDAQ:AONE), Capstone Turbine Corp (NASDAQ:CPST), Canadian Solar Inc (NASDAQ:CSIQ), Echelon Corp (NASDAQ:ELON), FuelCell Energy Inc (NASDAQ:FCEL), Gevo Inc (NASDAQ:GEVO), Green Plains Renewable Energy Inc (NASDAQ:GPRE), IXYS Corp (NASDAQ:IXYS), JA Solar Holdings Co Ltd (NASDAQ:JASO), LDK Solar Co Ltd (NYSE:LDK), O2Micro International Ltd (NASDAQ:OIIM), Renesola Ltd (NYSE:SOL), Suntech Power Holdings Co Ltd (NYSE:STP), and STR Holdings Inc (NYSE:STRI).
The change will take effect before the market opens on September 24.
The Nasdaq Clean Edge Green Energy Index tracks the performance of clean-energy businesses that are listed in the US and covers five main sub-sectors -- electricity generation, renewable fuels, energy storage and conversion, energy intelligence as well as advanced energy-related materials. It serves at the basis for the First Trust Nasdaq Clean Edge Green Energy Index Fund (NASDAQ:QCLN), which targets investment results corresponding to the price and yield of the index before fees and costs.
