EnergyAustralia secures court nod for 105-MW wind farm

Nov 13, 2014 - Melbourne-based utility EnergyAustralia has received the green light from a South Australian court to proceed with the development of its up to 105-MW Stony Gap wind project.

The development approval was granted by the state's Environment, Resources and Development Court, the developer said on its website. The wind scheme was previously rejected by the Goyder Council in 2012, after which the developer appealed the decision in the court.

According to the Court’s ruling, campaigner Sarah Laurie’s evidence that the noise and vibrations from the proposed facility will have negative effect on people’s health was not relevant as she has no qualifications or experience for conducting such research.

EnergyAustralia got approval to install 35 turbines the town of Burra, which are expected to generate enough power to meet the demand of over 64,000 local homes. The developer’s initial plan was for 41 turbines.
