Enercon to invest EUR 10m in plant expansion in northern Portugal - report

Jul 23, 2013 - German wind turbine maker Enercon will invest EUR 10 million (USD 13.2m) in the expansion of а plant for production of wind turbine blades in Viana do Castelo, northern Portugal, business daily Jornal de Negocios said yesterday.

The company will expand the area of the factory to 562 sq m (6,049 sq ft) from the current 236 sq m.

The reconstruction is aimed at meeting the production of the new blade model E92. Part of the output will target the domestic market and the remainder will be exported through the Port of Viana do Castelo.

The municipality of Viana do Castelo approved the investment as it reinforces the operations of the company and is seen to lead to the creation new jobs.

Enercon has invested more than EUR 120 million in Viana do Castelo since 2006. Also, the company is one of the biggest contributors to Portugal's exports and employs over 1,400 people directly.
