January 31 (Renewables Now) - Enel SpA (BIT:ENEL) informed on Friday its renewables arm Enel Green Power (EGP) had been awarded 80 MW of capacity in a tender launched by Italian state-owned energy service system operator Gestore dei Servizi Energetici GSE SpA.

Of the awarded total capacity, the Italian utility’s unit secured 60 MW for three new wind projects. The remaining 20 MW were awarded for the repowering of existing wind and hydropower schemes.

Construction of the new wind farms will commence in 2020. The project sites are located in Sicily, Molise and Campania. Enel expects these wind farms will start production in 2021.

The repowering and upgrades will be carried on four plants already in operation between 2020 and 2021. The facilities are located in Molise, Sardinia, Piedmont and Tuscany, Enel said.
