Enel inks VPPA with math software dev for 250-MW Oklahoma wind farm

US math software developer MathWorks has signed a virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) associated with a 250-MW wind farm that Italy’s Enel Green Power is building in the state of Oklahoma.

The software company will procure electricity from an 11-MW portion of the 25 Mile Creek wind power project in Ellis County, Enel North America said on Thursday.

Under the 12-year VPPA, Enel Green Power will inject about 50 GWh of electricity per year and send MathWorks the corresponding renewable energy certificates (RECs). For MathWorks, the amount of contracted power is enough to meet consumption needs of its two main campuses in Massachusetts and six field offices in the US.

The arrangement will also help MathWorks become carbon neutral by 2023 by addressing 100% of its scope 2 emissions in the US, according to Enel’s press release.

The 25 Mile Creek project is the 12th wind farm development for the Italian electric utility group in Oklahoma. Once in operation, the new wind farm is expected to be capable of generating over 1,100 GWh of electricity per year.
