Enel Green Power North America Inc (EGPNA) has begun construction of the 298-MW Thunder Ranch wind energy project in the US state of Oklahoma.
The total investment in the wind farm is estimated at USD 435 million (EUR 398m), to be financed with own resources of the Enel Group. The power plant will sell its power and renewable energy credits under long-term agreements, Italian energy giant Enel SpA (BIT:ENEL) said in its press release today.
Thunder Ranch will be located in Garfield, Kay and Noble Counties and will become operational by the end of this year. It is to produce over 1.1 TWh per year, offsetting roughly 790,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
In Oklahoma Enel has recently started construction also of the 300-MW Red Dirt wind project. The state has 6.65 GW of installed wind power generation capacity and ranks third in the country, according to the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA).
