Enel Green Power Italia, part of Italian energy group Enel SpA (BIT:ENEL), has commissioned the 14.4-MW Partanna wind farm in Sicily.
Located in Contrada Magaggiari, Trapani province, Partanna consists of a total of six 2.4-MW turbines and it was connected to the grid on April 14. Construction took eight months after the site was open, the company said on Friday.
Enel Green Power estimates that Partanna will be able to generate some 40 GWh of electricity per year, enough to offset some 18,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually.
The wind farm was secured in a tender held by Gestore dei Servizi Energetici GSE SpA.
“Today Enel's production of energy from renewable sources, both globally and in Italy, already exceeds that of its thermoelectric plants," said Salvatore Bernabei, CEO of Enel Green Power and Head of Global Power Generation at Enel.
