May 23 (Renewables Now) - The renewables arm of Italian energy major Enel SpA (BIT:ENEL) has initiated construction work on the 90-MW Azov wind park in Southern Russia’s Rostov region, it was announced today.
Enel Green Power expects to invest a total of EUR 132 million (USD 147m) in the particular project, which is Rostov’s first such facility. It is building the wind farm on a 133-hectare area, using 26 turbines. Upon completion in late 2020, the plant will be able to generate around 320 GWh of electricity per year.
The Russian unit of Enel won the Azov project, along with the 201-MW Murmansk wind farm, in the 2017 Russian government tender.
Antonio Cammisecra, Global Head of Enel Green Power, commented that the company will continue to look for “new opportunities in this renewables-rich country.”
