German utility Energie Baden-Wuerttemberg AG (ETR:EBK), or EnBW, has partnered with wind turbine manufacturer Senvion SA (ETR:SEN) for the realisation of local wind projects totalling several hundred megawatts (MWs).
The two companies have signed a deal that makes Senvion the exclusive cooperation partner of EnBW for this plan. The energy company expects to submit planning applications at short notice for the projects, which will use Senvion’s new 3.4M140 low-speed wind turbine. The idea is to participate with these schemes in the upcoming auctions.
Overall, EnBW aims to put a total of 1,000 MW of onshore wind generating capacity by 2020.
Senvion’s CEO Juergen Geissinger commented that Germany remains a core market for the company and that the wind turbine maker already has experience from various markets with auction systems.
Jochen Magerfleisch, Executive Vice President Sales Europe at Senvion, in turn, commented that “the number of planning applications involving Senvion wind turbines shows that we are meeting demand head on at various German locations with our new low-speed wind turbines”.
