Eltek nabs power systems job at 900-MW offshore wind platform

Dec 15, 2014 - Norwegian power solutions provider Eltek said Friday it had won a contract to deliver power supply systems for the 900-MW DolWin3 offshore wind farm network in Germany.

The contract was awarded by French transport and power equipment maker Alstom (EPA:ALO). Under its terms, Eltec will supply secure power to protection and control equipment for the onshore high-voltage direct current (HVDC) substation that will transport electricity between wind farms in the North Sea to the mainland in Germany. Shipments of DC power supplies, inverters, batteries and provision of related services are also included in the agreement.

Alstom was in 2013 selected to supply and build the onshore and offshore converter stations along with the connecting cable systems for the over-EUR-1-billion (USD-1.25bn) DolWin3 project, owned by Dutch-German transmission system operator TenneT. Once completed, the transmission link will be the third connection at the DolWin wind farm cluster in the North Sea. The facility is expected to be operational in 2017.
