German firm EEW Special Pipe Constructions GmbH (EEW SPC) has been selected as producer of the remaining monopiles for Dong Energy’s (CPH:DENERG) up-to-1.2-GW Hornsea Project One wind farm in the North Sea.
Dong Energy announced the deal on Friday, saying that it is an extension of a 116-unit contract from November 2016. Each monopile foundation for the 174 Siemens turbines will have a diametre of up to 8.1 metres (266 ft).
The Hornsea One wind farm will be located off the Yorkshire coast and is expected to be operational in 2020. Onshore construction was launched in 2016, while offshore work is slated to begin in late 2017. Once completed, the offshore complex is anticipated to produce enough power to supply more than one million homes.
Last week, Dong Energy awarded UK marine and engineering consultancy LOC Renewables a contract to carry out marine warranty surveying (MWS) services for the Hornsea One.
