EDF Renewables (EDFR) and Alliant Energy Corp (NYSE:LNT) on Friday announced the commissioning of the 200-MW Golden Plains wind farm in the US state of Iowa.
The power plant was built under a partnership that the two companies entered in the summer of 2018. EDFR, part of French power group EDF’s (EPA:EDF) renewables arm, was awarded contracts to construct the wind park in support of Alliant Energy’s plan to have 1,299 MW of wind power capacity in operation in Iowa by end-2020.
Located in Winnebago and Kossuth counties, in the central part of the state, the power plant is equipped by 82 turbines by General Electric (NYSSE:GE) that are expected to be capable of generating enough electricity to supply 73,000 average homes a year.
“The project provides an economic boost to the Iowa economy, through new construction and operations jobs, expanded tax base, and recurring, long-term income for participating landowners,” said Kate O’Hair, vice president development, North Region at EDFR.
According to the press release, EDFR has developed or put on stream 1.4 GW of wind capacity in Iowa, including the Golden Plains complex.
