October 23 (Renewables Now) - Ameren Corporation (NYSE:AEE) said on Monday it has signed an agreement to acquire, for an undisclosed amount, a 157-MW wind park from EDF Renewables North America.

The Brickyard Hill wind project, as it is named, is located in Atchison County, Kansas. Through its Ameren Missouri subsidiary, the company has agreed to buy the park from the local unit of French utility Electricite de France (EPA:EDF) once it is completed.

Scheduled to commence operations in 2020, Brickyard Hill is expected to generate enough power to meet the annual demand of 47,000 homes, create more than 280 jobs at peak construction and inject millions of dollars into the local economy, EDF said.

With the transaction, Ameren Missouri continues to meet its goal of reducing carbon emissions by 80% by 2050, compared to 2005 levels. The acquisition is subject to approval from the Missouri Public Service Commission and securing "a timely and acceptable" transmission interconnection deal with the Midcontinent Independent System Operator, EDF noted.
