Dec 19, 2013 - EDF Renewable Energy, former enXco, said yesterday it had purchased a 200-MW wind farm project in Texas from Renewable Energy Systems Americas (RES Americas) for an undisclosed amount.
RES Americas, part of UK-based Renewable Energy Systems Ltd (RES Group), will be in charge of the construction of the Longhorn North wind farm in Floyd and Briscoe counties as part of a balance-of-plant (BOP) contract. Building works are scheduled to begin before December 31 in an effort to qualify the project for the Production Tax Credit (PTC), which expires at year-end. The facility is planned to be switched on at the end of next year.
The wind farm will use the transmission lines of the Texas Panhandle competitive renewable energy zone (CREZ) to connect to high electricity demand areas in the state. Once completed, its output will be sold under a long-term fixed-price hedge agreement.
Since the start of the year, EDF Renewable, a unit of French green energy company EDF Energies Nouvelles (EN), has acquired three projects in Texas, including the Longhorn North scheme. It expects to commission 561 MW of capacity in the state in the next 18 months.
