EDF Renouvelables, the renewables business of French utility group EDF (EPA:EDF), said on Thursday that a local joint venture has commissioned the 200-MW Dongtai V offshore wind farm off the coast of China's Jiangsu province.
EDF Group developed the project in partnership with China Energy Investment Corp (CEI). This is the second offshore wind park that the two companies have worked on together following the 300-MW Dongtai IV, switched on in December 2019. EDF Group has a 37.5% interest in both Dongtai IV and V.
Overall, the group now operates 500 MW of offshore wind capacity in China. The two wind farms with their 125 turbines in total are expected to produce enough clean electricity to meet the annual demand of 2 million local inhabitants.
Dongtai IV and V are the results of the first Sino-French joint venture focused on the development and operation of offshore wind energy projects in China, according to the announcement.
