Mar 1, 2013 - French renewable energy group EDF Energies Nouvelles, or EDF EN, announced today the start of construction works on the third, and final, stage of the 325.2 MW C-Power offshore wind farm in Belgian waters.
The C-Power wind farm, which already has 215 MW in service, is beginning works on the third phase which will add 110.7 MW in capacity and in this way the facility will reach its target for installed capacity of 325.2 MW.
The installation of the final 18 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 6.15 MW, has to be completed by the summer of 2013.
An initial pilot phase of 30 MW comprising six turbines has been in service since June 2009, while a second tranche of 30 turbines with 184.5 MW in total capacity, was commissioned in late December 2012.
The C-Power offshore wind farm is located some 30 km (18.64 miles) off the coast of Zeebrugge on Thorntonbank. EDF EN holds a 9.1% stake in the facility alongside its business partners in the Belgian C-Power consortium.
CEO Antoine Cahuzac commented that thanks to the current project, EDF EN will acquire expertise and experience which will be used for the development of offshore wind farms in France and the UK.
