Sep 10, 2014 - Motorists in the US state of Iowa have purchased some 2.98 million gallons (11.29 million litres) of ethanol-blended fuel E85 during the second quarter of 2014, data released by the Iowa Department of Revenue shows.
This compares to the 2.62 million gallons sold a year earlier and the 2.71 million sold in the first quarter of 2014. The more than 200,000-gallon rise on a quarter-on-quarter basis is attributed to the continuing growth in ethanol’s discount to gasoline, Monte Shaw, executive director of the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA) said in a statement yesterday.
The volume sold in April-June 2014 is the highest registered in any second quarter so far, IRFA noted.
E85 is a blend that contains 70% to 85% ethanol, while the rest is petrol. At present, it is available at over 200 fueling sites in the US state of Iowa.
