E-Pellets to convert newly-purchased mill into wood pellet factory
Jul 21, 2014 - US firm E-Pellets LLC said on Thursday it had taken over the formerly-shuttered Louisiana Pacific OSB mill in the state of Georgia with plans to convert it into a wood pellet factory.
The company explained it will use the specific facility to produce and export wood pellets to the European Union for use as fuel in power plants instead of coal. Once the plant in Athens is converted, it will have an annual production capacity of about 450,000 tonnes.
E-Pellets has an existing long-term contract with Georgia Kaolin Terminal Inc (GKT) that allows it to export a maximum of 1.35 million tonnes of wood pellets a year through the port in Savannah, Georgia.
The acquisition of the Louisiana Pacific OSB mill comes after E-Pellet bought a similar underperforming plant in Nahunta, Georgia. The value of the latest transaction was not given.
