Duke Energy to monitor Block Island offshore wind park

The renewables arm of US utility Duke Energy (NYSE:DUK) has signed a contract to perform remote monitoring and control services for Deepwater Wind’s 30-MW Block Island wind park off the coast of Rhode Island.

Through its renewable control centre, Duke Energy Renewables will provide 24/7 monitoring and control services, data acquisition, performance analysis and reporting once the offshore wind farm starts commercial operation next month, the company announced today.

Duke Energy’s facility will also deliver energy market and dispatch services for the wind park, serving as point of contact with regional transmission organisation ISO New England.

Deepwater Wind completed construction work on the offshore wind park in August. The facility consists of five 6-MW Haliade wind turbines supplied by the renewables arm of General Electric (NYSE:GE). GE Renewable Energy is also providing long-term services and maintenance for the plant.
