Oct 4, 2012 - Ukraine's energy group DTEK today said its unit Wind Power Company (Donetsk) had switched on the first 57 MW of capacity at its 200-MW Botievska wind farm in the Zaporizhia region.
Total of 19 turbines are now up, while the company is to install 11 more machines by the end of October as part of the first 90-MW phase of the Botievska project. That phase is to be connected to the grid by the end of the year. The turbines have been supplied by Danish wind turbine maker Vestas Wind Systems (CPH:VWS).
DTEK said the remaining 110 MW of wind turbines would be installed at the Botievska wind farm by the end of 2013. The 200-MW project is calling for an investment of over EUR 350 million (USD 454.3m). It will be the largest wind farm in Ukraine, the company says.
At full capacity the Botievska wind farm will produce some 686 GWh of power a year, enough to supply 960,000 households and save 730,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions a year, DTEK estimates.
The Botievska wind farm will be part of DTEK's 550-MW Pryazovskyi wind complex which will include two more wind farms. The whole complex is expected to be commissioned in 2015.
