DTEK inaugurates Ukraine's 1st industrial energy storage system

DTEK launches energy storage system at Zaporizhzhya Power Plant , Ukraine.

May 26 (Renewables Now) - Ukrainian energy company DTEK last week officially launched the first industrial energy storage system in Ukraine -- a 1 MW/2.25 MWh lithium-ion battery installed at the Zaporizhzhya Power Plant in Energodar.

The pilot project is part of DTEK's ambition to make storage systems a key part of the energy market in Ukraine, while also helping with the decarbonisation in Eastern Europe, the company said.

DTEK will now proceed to certify the facility to secure the status of reserve capacity service provider for Ukraine's system operator.

The energy storage solution was provided by US-based Honeywell International Inc (NASDAQ:HON) under a contract signed in July 2020. Canadian company SunGrid Solutions also collaborated with DTEK on the project.
