(ADPnews) - Nov 26, 2010 - Dutch cable producer Draka Holding (AMS:DRAK) on Thursday said it had won a EUR-23 million (USD 30.6m) subsea array cabling order for a 288-MW offshore wind project off the German Western Baltic Sea coast.
Under the contract, awarded by Visser & Smit Marine Contracting, Draka's unit Draka Offshore will deliver 95 kilometres (59 miles) of 36 kV subsea power cable. The first delivery will be carried out in the second quarter of 2012 and final delivery in the first quarter of 2013. The company will also provide installation accessories.
The Baltic 2 offshore wind farm, located some 32 kilometres north of Rugen Island, includes 80 turbines of 3.6 MW each spread on 27-sq-km (10.4 sq miles) area. It is seen to supply power to 340,000 households and save 900,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions per year when at full operation, Draka said.
First marine civil works are slated for the beginning of 2012, and the farm is expected to become operational in 2013. It will be operated by German utility Energie Baden-Wuerttemberg (ETR:EBK), or EnBW.
