Danish utility Dong Energy A/S and MHI Vestas Offshore Wind have signed a conditional agreement for the supply of wind turbines for the 330-MW phase 1 of the Walney Extension project in UK waters.
Denmark’s Vestas Wind Systems (CPH:VWS), which shares the ownership of MHI Vestas Offshore Wind with Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (TYO:7011), said so on Thursday, adding that a firm and unconditional order is yet to be received.
Dong picked MHI Vestas Offshore Wind’s 8.0-MW V164 machine for the first stage of the project in February, while in March it selected Siemens (ETR:SIE) as the preferred supplier for the second phase of the Walney Extension.
The 660-MW Walney Extension park will be built off the east coast of England, next to the existing 367.2-MW Walney offshore wind farm. The extension project has already received a contract for difference (CfD).
