Danish renewables-focused utility Dong Energy A/S (CPH:DENERG) said Monday it will build an operations and maintenance (O&M) facility in Kings Wharf, Merseyside in northwestern England to serve its Burbo Bank offshore wind farms.
The existing 90-MW Burbo Bank wind farm has been in operation since 2007. The 258-MW Burbo Bank Extension is currently under construction and is due to be fully operational next year.
The "multi-million pound" operations facility will consist of a new office and warehouse building constructed on a disused site. Enabling works have started, with building works due to commence later this year. Completion is expected in the middle of 2017.
The facility will employaround 45 people once operational. Up to 75 jobs will be created during its construction.
Vessels will be operated from the Seacombe Mersey Ferries terminal. The company is in talks with Merseytravel over a long-term agreement for shared use of the terminal.
