Nov 19, 2013 - Danish state-owned utility Dong Energy A/S on Monday unveiled plans to construct 582 MW of wind parks in the German part of the North Sea.
The capacity will be split between the Gode Wind 1 and Gode Wind 2 projects -- of 330 MW and 252 MW, respectively. The total value of the project is estimated at EUR 2.2 billion (USD 3bn).
Dong Energy plans to install a total 97 turbines of 6 MW each, made by German Siements (FRA:SIE). They will be situated in proximity to the 320-MW Borkum Riffgrund 1 wind park, which the utility is currently building. When up and running, the Gode Wind 1 and 2 facilities will be capable of generating enough electricity to supply about 600,000 German homes, according to the developer’s calculations. Grid connection confirmation for the two projects has already been secured, while construction works are slated to begin in the first half of 2015. The facilities are planned to be switched on in the second half of 2016.
During the first 10 years of operation, Dong Energy will get a fixed price per kWh for selling the output of the wind parks, after which it will receive the market price.
After completing the two wind farms, the Danish utility will have about 3.5 GW of offshore wind capacity in its portfolio, it noted. The company aims to build 6.5 GW of offshore wind parks by 2020.
