The World Bank has selected a consortium including DNV GL for drafting offshore wind technical standards in China.
The Norway-based technical assurance and certification services provider said today the consortium will support the development of three standards in offshore wind turbine support structures, offshore substations and offshore wind farm power cables.
The project is part of the China Renewable Energy Scale-up Programme (CRESP) developed by the Chinese government in cooperation with the World Bank and the Global Environment.
The consortium also includes the China Renewable Energy Engineering Institute (CREEI) and the East China Investigation and Design Institute (ECIDI), who invited DNV GL to join the tender based on its offshore wind experience.
Mathias Steck, executive vice president for DNV GL's energy business in APAC (Asia Pacific), said that offshore wind is a demanding technology and standards are key to minimise risks to acceptable and bankable levels. He addied that "learning from the international experience as this mandate is supporting, is a great approach to accelerate a successful industry."
As part of the project, DNV GL will also be providing advice to the Chinese government on project financing and risk management.
