Belgian marine contractor DEME said today that DEME Offshore US has secured a contract to transport and install the inter-array cables for the Empire Wind 1 and 2 offshore wind projects in the US.
The projects are being developed by a partnership between Equinor ASA (NYSE:EQNR) and BP Plc (LON:BP). They have a total capacity of roughly 2.1 GW and will be capable of powering more than 1 million New York homes when completed.
DEME will use a cable installation vessel from its fleet to install the over 350 km (217 miles) of inter-array cables in two campaigns. At the moment the company operates the cable installation vessel Living Stone and will add a second cable installation vessel, Viking Neptun, in the first quarter of 2023.
DEME said the contract demonstrates the continued expansion of its US portfolio through its office in Boston and its commitment to the US offshore wind market.
