November 19 (Renewables Now) - DEME Offshore, part of the DEME Group, said today it has concluded the installation of 40 out of 80 XL foundations for the 480-MW Saint-Nazaire offshore wind project in French waters.

Construction work on the foundations of the wind farm was initiated in the spring of 2021. DEME Offshore noted that, for the first time, it is using the 350-tonne Offshore Foundation Drill (OFD) and tailor-made “MODIGA”, deployed from the firm’s installation vessel Innovation.

In August, DEME Offshore also announced the on-time delivery of the offshore substation for the project.

Saint-Nazaire is a 62-turbine wind park developed by EDF Renouvelables and EIH Sarl, an indirect unit of Enbridge Inc (TSE:ENB) and CPP Investments. It is expected to start operations next year, thus becoming the country’s first commercial offshore wind farm.
