Delhi govt to launch trials of 12-MW waste-to-power plant at end-Aug - report
Aug 6, 2012 - The Delhi government is to kick off a trial run of a 12-MW waste-to-power plant in Ghazipur from the end of August, daily The Times of India said Sunday, citing sources in the know.
The facility has been built to support efforts to reclaim land at the Ghazipur landfill site.
East Delhi Municipal Corp has been requested to start sending waste to the power plant later this month. Full-scale operation is expected to start before the year is over, according to the report. Times of India quoted an official from East Delhi Municipal Corp as saying that the civic body was to provide 1,300 tonnes of waste per day.
Mahek Singh, chairman of East Delhi Municipal Corp's standing committee, was cited as saying that there were plans for the construction of similar waste-to-power installations in other areas.
