(ADPnews) - Oct 8, 2010 - Danish Vestas Wind Systems (CPH:VWS) had bought land for USD 2.5 million (EUR 1.8m) to expand its wind turbine blades plant in the US state of Colorado, local daily The Coloradoan reported on Wednesday.
"We have made a commitment to locate our North American manufacturing facilities in Colorado, and this land purchase will give us flexibility for future growth," Vestas communications specialist Andrew Longeteig said in an e-mailed statement.
The wind turbine maker had acquired the land from Lot Holding Investments in September. It spreads on some 80 acres (32.4 ha) and is located next to Vestas' blades manufacturing facility in Windsor.
According to Michael Job, property manager for Lot Holding, Vestas will use it to store blades from a recent order.
In July Vestas received an order for 190 units of V90-3.0 MW turbines, totalling 570 MW, from US renewable energy producer Terra-Gen Power. Vestas is making the blades for the order at its Windsor plant.
Vestas put in operation the USD-60-million facility in January 2008, targeting to manufacture 1,800 wind turbine blades annually with 700 employee. In July, the plant which already had 650 workforce, announced it would employ 100 more.
