The Danish Energy Agency (DEA) on Monday started a public consultation for the strategic environmental assessment (SEA) of three offshore wind areas, Nordsoen I, Kattegat II and Kriegers Flak II.
The consultation, running till the end of the month, seeks to inform the topics and environmental impacts that should be included in the SEA for the three areas. Nordsoen I in the North Sea is investigated as a potential home of turbines representing between 5,000 MW and 17,445 MW of total capacity. Kattegat II in the Kattegat sea area could host between 1,000 MW and 2,460 MW, and Kriegers Flak II, located in the Baltic Sea, between 1,000 MW and 3,450 MW.
In Denmark, there are political agreements to tender at least 9,000 MW of offshore wind for construction by 2030, including 3,000 MW from Energy Island Bornholm and 800 MW-1,200 MW from the Hesselo project.
While the final locations of the offshore wind farms are subject to a final political decision, DEA is advancing work on the three areas to ensure the wind capacity can be installed on time.
The SEA for Nordsoen I, Kattegat II and Kriegers Flak II is expected to be released for a new public consultation in the first half of 2024.
Besides the SEA, an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of specific projects will be conducted before a construction license can be granted, the agency said.
