(ADPnews) - Oct 25, 2010 - Danish food ingredients and enzymes maker Danisco A/S (CPH:DCO) and French sugar and ethanol producer Tereos jointly announced today a partnership on setting up a betaine production facility within Tereos' existing bioethanol producing plant in Origny, France.
No financial details were disclosed.
Danisco has announced a pioneering investment in a novel method of extracting betaine from a sides-stream of bioethanol production.
The new source of natural betaine will be transported to the Danish company's Finnish plant for production of its final Betafin product.
Natural betaine is a key product in support of Danisco's strategy to provide innovative healthy nutrition solutions to the animal feed industry. The investment will substantially increase natural betaine availability, from the fourth quarter of 2012, to address the growing and unfulfilled market demand.
For Tereos, the partnership is an opportunity to increase the value of a distillery by-product and develop its industrial know-how in a large-scale plant. The new activity will create 20 permanent jobs in the Origny sugar beet distillery.
The new facility will be managed by Tereos, with technological support from Danisco.
Unlike synthetic betaine, natural betaine acts as an osmolyte, improving intestinal health and reducing the negative impact of heat-stress on animal production.
