Enel Green Power North America Inc has signed a 12-year virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) with US dairy company HP Hood LLC, which will buy electricity from 25 MW of wind capacity.
To be more precise, the company behind brands such as Hood, Simply Smart Milk, Planet Oat and Hershey's Milk & Milkshakes, will purchase 90 GWh of power per year from the Azure Sky wind-and-storage project in Texas. This amount will be enough to cover about a third of the electricity that was consumed in 2020 by Hood’s 13 production facilities.
The Azure Sky project is located west of the Dallas-Fort Worth area in Throckmorton County. It includes the construction of a 350-MW wind park and the installation of about 137 MW direct current (DC) of battery storage capacity. Completion is scheduled for the first half of 2022.
Other off-takers tied to Azure Sky include Kellogg Company (NYSE:K) MilliporeSigma, Akamai Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:AKAM), Synopsys (NASDAQ:SNPS) and Uber (NYSE:UBER).
