Offshore wind developer Corio Generation will partner with Portugal's renewable energy developer Hyperion Renewables to explore wind opportunities off the Portuguese coast and take part in the country's first offshore wind tender this year.
The duo signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly prepare applications for the competition slated to take place later in 2023, Corio said today.
The partnership combines Corio's market expertise in auction preparation and site selection with Hyperion’s deep knowledge of the Portuguese regulatory landscape as well as its experience in stakeholder engagement.
With this new agreement, the offshore wind developer, part of Macquarie’s Green Investment Group (GIG), makes its debut in the Portuguese market, adding another country to its European portfolio.
Corio's decision to enter Portugal comes after the government unveiled a plan in January to award 10 GW of offshore wind by the end of this decade and most of it will utilise the floating technology.
Earlier this month, Corio inked an MoU with South Korea’s Daewoo Engineering and Construction (KRX:047040), or Daewoo E&C, for offshore opportunities not only in Korea but across the whole Asia-Pacific region.
