Consumers Energy moves ahead with Lake Winds energy park
(ADPnews) - Nov 22, 2010 - US utility Consumers Energy, a subsidiary of CMS Energy (NYSE:CMS), said on Friday it had signed two construction and supply contracts for its Lake Winds energy park in Mason County, Michigan.
Consumers Energy has signed a contract for the balance of plant engineering, procurement and construction services with local wind farm builder White Construction Inc. It has also signed a contract with GE-Prolec Transformers Inc to provide electric transformers for a new substation that will serve the Lake Winds energy park.
The company has filed with the Michigan Public Service Commission for approval of these contracts, as well as a Vestas turbine purchase agreement.
Consumers Energy plans to release a study about the financial benefits of the project in early 2011. The wind farm is scheduled to begin operation in late 2012.
Consumers Energy provides natural gas and electricity to nearly 6.5 million of Michigan's 10 million residents. The utility currently secures 5% of its electricity from renewable sources in Michigan, and plans to raise the share to 8% by the end of 2012.
