Clearway brings live 419-MW wind farm in Texas

Clearway Energy Inc (NYSE:NYLD) has finalised the construction and fully commissioned its 419-MW Mesquite Star wind park in Texas, the US power producer said on Thursday.

Located in Fisher County, the power plant is equipped with Siemens Gamesa turbines, which were installed by engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor Blattner Energy Inc. Tax equity financing was provided by BHE Renewables LLC.

The produced electricity from the wind farm will be sold under an aggregation of long-term power agreements with several corporate and institutional customers among which are Ecolab (NYSE:ECL), retailer Lowe’s Companies Inc (NYSE:LOW), Intuit Inc (NASDAQ:INTU) and Brown University. Lowe’s has committed to buy the output from 100 MW of the overall capacity, or enough to supply the equivalent of all of its 143 stores in Texas. For Brown University, the off-take deal will be “a key part” of its efforts towards reaching zero carbon emissions by 2040. The contracted output will help it offset around 30% of its campus power demand.

More than 300 job positions were opened during the construction phase of the project, Clearway said.
