October 9 (Renewables Now) - Southern California electricity provider Clean Power Alliance (CPA) has sealed a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for 300 MW of wind energy to be produced by a new plant in Arizona.
Specifically, CPA has agreed to buy electricity generated by NextEra Energy Resources LLC’s White Hills wind farm near Hoover Dam. The particular project has already concluded the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) permitting process and is expected to enter the construction phase early next year. Completion is scheduled for December 2020.
CPA noted that this contract will allow it to meet SB100 goals 10 years early, while also reducing costs, including the premium between its 100% Green and 50% Clean and 36% Lean Power rates. Meanwhile, the developer has pledged to spend some USD 1 million (EUR 910,000) on local workforce development initiatives in CPA’s service territory over four years.
The electricity provider pointed out that it plans to launch its 2019 Clean Energy RFO this autumn.
