Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP)’s Advanced Bioenergy Fund I has acquired the Envo Biogas project in Tonder, Denmark, from Canadian renewable natural gas (RNG) specialist Anaergia Inc (TSE:ANRG), the parties announced today.
This is the first investment for the fund, which seeks to develop and build projects across Europe and North America.
Anaergia acquired Envo Biogas as a development project in late 2021. The facility sent first biomethane to the Danish grid in November 2022, which enabled it to qualify for a 20-year Danish Energy Agency biogas subsidy programme, the company explained.
The plant is expected to reach full capacity by 2025 and to become one of the largest biogas facilities in Europe. It will be able to turn about 900,000 tonnes of agricultural and industrial organic waste into 1.4 million MMBtu (40 million Nm3) of RNG a year. The plant will also provide biogenic carbon dioxide for Danish renewables developer European Energy’s Power-to-X facility under construction at Kasso.
Anaergia will use the proceeds to support growth, mainly in Italy and Germany.
