October 30 (Renewables Now) - US movie theatre chain Cinemark USA Inc on Monday said it has inked a virtual power purchase agreement (PPA) for up to 40 MW of AEP Energy Partners’ Trent Mesa wind farm in Texas.

AEP Energy Partners, a unit of utility American Electric Power (NYSE:AEP), brought online the 150-MW Trent Mesa wind park back in 2001. Located in the state's Nolan County, the 100-turbine plant has a long-term PPA with local retail electricity provider TXU Energy.

Under the terms of the nine-year contract with AEP, the unit of motion picture exhibitor Cinemark Holdings (NYSE:CNK) will get electricity to match 40 MW of the wind farm’s generation. This will be as much as is needed to meet the demand of 120 Cinemark theatres or nearly 14,000 homes. Cinemark will get the associated renewable energy credits (RECs) produced by the 40-MW portion.
