China to help Sri Lanka build wind farms

(SeeNews) - Jul 9, 2013 - China will help Sri Lanka prepare plans for the installation of wind power generation systems in rural areas near paddy fields, the Chinese ambassador in Sri Lanka, Wu Jiang hao, said yesterday.

Under the scheme, the government will erect multi-purpose wind towers to ensure uninterrupted power supply during peak hours. The move will also result in a reduction in the maintenance costs of transmitters.

At a meeting with the country’s economic development minister Basil Rajapaksa, the ambassador went on to say that a group of Chinese entities will also consider investing in the development of infrastructure facilities and the supply of agricultural implements among other areas.
