UK energy services company Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) has clinched a deal to offtake the power output of Downing LLP’s recently commissioned 30-MW Konttisuo wind park in Finland.
Under the 10-year power purchase agreement (PPA), Centrica’s subsidiary Centrica Energy Marketing & Trading (EM&T) will also provide balancing and hedging services. The power procured from the wind farm will be offered on the wholesale power markets, the UK firm said on Wednesday.
The fixed-price contract will come into effect on October 1, 2022.
London-based sustainable investment manager Downing closed the acquisition of the 30-MW Konttisuo wind park from developer Energiequelle GmbH last week and announced the plant’s commissioning. The German firm will oversee the wind park’s technical and commercial operations.
Located near Soini, in the region of Southern Ostrobothnia, the Konttisuo wind farm will be capable of producing electricity for around 37,000 local homes annually. It is equipped with seven N149 turbines supplied and serviced by Nordex.
"The onshore wind sector in Finland is expanding rapidly and we are delighted to be able to contribute to Finland’s decarbonisation and energy security goals,” said Tom Williams, head of Energy & Infrastructure at Downing.
