Jan 30 (Renewables Now) - Cathie Associates, an international offshore geoscience and geotechnical engineering consultancy, said today it has set up a US subsidiary to serve offshore wind development in the country.

"With the construction of the Block Island wind farm and both Dong Energy and Statoil entering the market, momentum is beginning to build," Gareth Ellery, group business development manager, said of the emerging offshore wind industry in the US.

The new unit, Cathie Associates Inc, is based in Boston, Massachusetts.

David Cathie, chief executive and founder, said the US entity has been in the making for about six months now and comes after the company has been following the industry for more than five years and supporting a number of planned developments.

Cathie Associates provides services to the oil, gas and renewable energy markets.
