Cape Wind to set up HQ on Falmouth Harbor, Cape Cod
Aug 24, 2012 - The US Cape Wind offshore wind project will locate its operations headquarters on Cape Cod's Falmouth Harbor, according to an announcement on the project's website published yesterday.
Cape Wind is a 130-wind turbine project being developed off Cape Cod, Massachusetts by US company Energy Management Inc. It is set to be the US's first offshore wind farm.
Cape Wind signed earlier this week a deal to buy East Marine on Falmouth Harbor, the statement said. By setting up headquarters at the site, Cape Wind will create 50 permanent jobs, while according to a previous study by Global Insight the local economy will benefit from a further 100 new indirect and induced jobs.
Operations at East Marine will be maintained unchanged for the upcoming winter boat storage season and the 2013 summer season. After that, Cape Wind plans to start renovating the two buildings and begin using the site. It expects to keep some traditional marina functions such as boat slip rentals in addition to its own activities.
