January 17 (Renewables Now) - Canada is investing CAD 2.7 million (USD 2.1m/EUR 1.9m) in 54 electric vehicle (EV) fast chargers at locations of retailer Canadian Tire in the central and western parts of the country.

The investment, made through Natural Resources Canada’s Electric Vehicle and Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Deployment Initiative (EVAFIDI), follows the almost CAD 1.3 million provided in 2016 for 28 fast chargers at Canadian Tire locations.

The government of British Columbia is also providing CAD 275,000 for the fast chargers through its Clean Energy Vehicle Public Fast Charging Program.

The latest investment will make Canadian Tire's EV network one of the biggest in the country with 104 stations.

The funding is part of the CAD 182.5 million investment from the government of Canada into the development of a coast-to-coast fast charging network for EVs.
