Cambridge Power wins permit for 100-MW battery in Suffolk

Uk firm Cambridge Power Ltd today said it has obtained planning permission for a 100-MW battery energy storage system (BESS) at Bullen Lane, Bramford in Suffolk, eastern England.

The company, set up by Pigeon Investment Management in 2018, added it has now secured planning permissions for 210 MW of battery storage projects with additional sites expected to be given the green light in the coming weeks.

Commenting on the Bramford site, Cambridge Power chief executive Giles Hanglin said: "Its location adjacent to the Bramford substation further adds to its credentials as an excellent storage site to assist with delivering the offshore wind and interconnectors on the east coast of Suffolk.”

Earlier this year, Cambridge Power unveiled a framework agreement with Brookfield Renewable to develop more than 800 MW of BESS assets and 185 MW of co-located solar for investment over the next five years.
