Cable replacement starts at Denmark's Anholt offshore wind park

The replacement of two parts of the subsea cable connecting the 400-MW Anholt offshore wind farm to the Danish grid started on October 29, transmission system operator (TSO) Energinet.dk said today.

It is too early to say when the work will be finished, as much depends on the weather. With the help of NKT Cables, two separate pieces of the subsea cable, of about 4.5 km (2.8 miles) in total, will be replaced.

In early 2015 Dong Energy’s Anholt wind farm was offline for about a month due to a subsea cable fault that occurred on February 21, 2015. This was fixed, but the Energinet.dk discovered that two areas of the cable need to be replaced to avoid another error.

Two hours after midnight on October 19, the cable to Dong Energy’s 209-MW Horns Rev 2 offshore wind farm in Danish waters also went out of service due to an error. Energinet.dk has set November 25 as the tentative date for the repair.
