Italy-based renewables developer Building Energy said on Monday it has initiated the second phase of construction on an up to 30-MW wind farm in four different counties of the US state of Iowa.
The USD-55-million (EUR 52m) project represents Building Energy’s first ever wind scheme. It involves installing 10 pieces of Acciona Windpower’s AW125/3000 turbines, with a rotor diameter of 125 metres (410 ft). The balance of plant will be provided by general contractor Michels Corporation.
The wind farm is expected to be completed by the end of next year, when it will be able to generate some 110,000 MWh of electricity annually. Local utility Alliant Energy will be buying the plant’s output.
The Italian company’s pipeline includes projects in 24 countries surpassing 2.9 GW of capacity, it says.
