Brexit may delay EDP's Moray Firth offshore wind project - CEO

The Brexit decision could delay the 1,116-MW Moray Firth offshore wind project in Scotland, the chief executive of Portuguese utility EDP (ELI:EDP) has said, as cited by Reuters.

The project is being developed by the company's renewables arm. According to Antonio Mexia, authorising the project to go ahead could be complicated by the uncertainty prompted by the Brexit vote.

The project has secured all the required permits but needs Contract for Difference (CfD) subsidy to proceed. The government has said it plans to hold a CfD auction this year.

Mexia told reporters today that delays with the decision on the scheme and the tender launch were possible, but the company remained interested.

Earlier this month EDPR said it planned to start consultation on the development of the remainder of its offshore wind zone in Scotland's Outer Moray Firth. Moray Offshore Renewables Ltd (MORL), which is owned by EDP, was awarded the zone in 2010. It split it into two - the eastern and western area.
